Another strong par 5, the 14th at Palm Beach requires a water carry off the tee, and some careful forward planning as to the line taken to the hole.  With the green visible from the tees, this can entice the golfer to play down the right hand side and tempt the longer hitter to go for the green in two.  The safer option is to play down the middle left of the fairway, leaving a lay up of the water for the second shot.  This is however where the hole gets difficult.  In the second landing of the hole, the fairway ‘splits’ – the high side to the left of the fairway bunker and the low side to the right.  The higher left side is more open and generous but leaves a longer third shot into the green; the lower left side much tighter but provides a much simpler chip in to the green.
